Trojan Group proves its value at the FIT Show

The Trojan Group’s Managing Director, Tony Chadwick, sums up his company’s presence at the FIT Show by saying, “It was a major success for us and we’ve already booked our stand for 2016 on the back of it.”

Trojan Group utilised the show to promote its three latest products, the Sparta 3 window handle, the Patriot Plus HD door hinge and Pegasus high security window lock. All three products have been designed to help you tie up less capital in stock, releasing cash into your business. Tony says, “Our customers were telling us that one of the greatest issues they were facing was continuing to deliver quality in the face of difficult cashflow. The three new products mean our customers don’t have to compromise on the quality they offer and don’t have to make the false economy of choosing lower quality hardware to help reduce costs. So many visitors to the stand commented on the value these products will add to their business and it was great to hear such positive feedback.”

Other products attracting high levels of interest were the Mega Egress Hinge, which is perfect for triple glazed windows and the formidable stainless steel range, which is still proving a bestseller thanks to its corrosion resistance. The Trojan Group – Trojan Patriot Plus
2nd May, 2014

Trojan flags up the benefits of its New Patriot Plus High Security Flag Hinge

According to Tony Chadwick, Managing Director of the Trojan Group, the flag hinge is one of the most overlooked pieces of security door hardware. “The flag hinge is the default choice of hinge for most fabricators and installers – it’s a cost-effective option that’s easy to fit. But its universal use means it’s all too easy to forget that some flag hinges are better than others.”

The latest flag hinges, such as Trojan’s new Patriot Plus, have been designed with the latest security criteria in mind, meaning they conform to the current PAS 24 specification. The Patriot Plus is designed to be fixed to the reinforcing in the door leaf, making it a much more secure option than an edge fitted hinge. This is one of the reasons why the Patriot Plus can achieve PAS 24 as part of a door assembly.

All flag hinges are easy to fit, but this is especially true in the case of the Patriot Plus. It is supplied assembled and ready to fit, dramatically improving the fitting process. Compression and vertical height adjustments are undertaken by the use of Allen keys and adjustment can be done with the door in the closed position. A unique integral flag cover gives easy access for lateral adjustments. The compression is adjusted in a linear motion without affecting the lateral adjustment, reducing the possibility of the door ‘binding’ once in use. Vertical height and compression adjustments are also integral product features.

The hinge has an elegant, subtle appearance and is available in a range of UV rated finishes including Gold (PVD), Chrome, White, Brown, Black and Tan. It is non-handed to reduce inventory and free up cash. It comes with a 10 year mechanical guarantee, giving peace of mind to both installer and homeowner.

Tony concludes, “The Patriot Plus High Security Flag Hinge offers all the traditional benefits of a flag hinge, but adds further security and ease of fitting benefits too. Quite simply, the Patriot Plus is the Trojan Group’s highest security flag hinge to date at an affordable price.”

Trojan Group – Sash UK

Sash UK and Trojan celebrate a successful partnership

There’s nothing quite like the security of working with a company who shares the same ethos and operates in a similar way, which is why Sash UK, with its long-standing tradition of craftsmanship and quality is applauding its excellent working relationship with the Trojan Group.

Already in successful partnership for their largest customer’s specification, Sash UK thought it made good business sense to expand their relationship with Trojan when in 2010 their need for a new furniture supplier arose.

Stephen Morrell, MD of Sash UK is clear why the partnership with Trojan has been such a success, “We feel Trojan are of a similar mind to us here at Sash UK, organised, forward thinking and with a substantial focus on customer satisfaction, but they also lead the market with superior quality, innovative products that use cutting edge technology.”

It’s the range of products they offer that make Trojan a winning company for Sash UK with its revolutionary window and door hardware range. The stainless steel collection which comprises t-hinges, handles, letter plates, door knockers, door numbers and numerals perform well, stand up to the elements and all come with a 25-year anti-corrosion guarantee. But it’s not just the performance of the Trojan’s products that Sash UK value so highly, their three latest products, the Sparta 3 handle, the Patriot Plus HD door hinge and Pegasus high security window lock are all intelligently designed and stylish too.

It’s the quality and performance of Trojan’s products that are so attractive to Sash UK, but the partnership offers other benefits too, not least the standard of service. “Trojan is probably our most reliable supplier of hardware. We are fully confident that orders will be despatched quickly, on time and in full. Trojan has worked hard to develop the highest level of service that compliments their high quality products and exceeds the expectations of their customers.”

The Trojan Group answers the Triple Glazing Question

The Trojan Group has announced it will be one of the exhibitors in the Expert Arena at the Triple Glazing Question to be held at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena on 10 April 2014.

Those from the industry who have registered for the event can visit the Arena to ask advice on how they may be affected by the various issues raised by triple glazing; discuss ways that they might meet the challenges and how they can make the most of the opportunities it could bring.

Tony Chadwick, Trojan’s Group Managing Director said, “Triple glazing is gaining increasing traction as a concept, but fully embracing it will require fundamental changes for everyone in the industry. The Triple Glazing Question is the perfect opportunity to look at triple glazing and what it means for us as an industry.” He adds, “Here at Trojan, we’ve been developing products that are triple-glazing compatible for a number of years now and I’m delighted that we’ll be taking part in the Triple Glazing Question and sharing our expertise.”

Andy Jones, Managing Director of Edgetech (UK) Ltd, the company organising the Triple Glazing Question added, “We are delighted that Trojan will be joining the debate. Companies like Trojan bringing their expertise and products to the event will make the day worthwhile for fabricators and installers alike.”

Products on the Trojan stand at the debate will include its Mega Egress hinge. One of the impacts of triple glazing is the need for heavier duty hardware able to cope with the additional weight of the units. The hinge can be used on all side hung applications up to a maximum sash width of 900mm but more importantly it can carry up to 40kg, making it ideal for all heavy duty applications, including triple glazed windows. Its unique patented design means it is a true egress hinge with unrestricted full 90 degree opening and also achieves high security (PAS 24 as part of a window system) and excellent compression characteristics.

It is intelligently-designed multi-purpose products such as the Mega Egress that cater for both double and triple glazed units without tying up excessive capital in stock that demonstrate why Trojan has been invited to be part of the Expert Arena.

Trojan Group – National Fenestration winners
31st January, 2014

Trojan Group is joint winner of Hardware category at inaugural National Fenestration Awards

The Trojan Group is celebrating recognition at the first ever National Fenestration Awards. The company was named as joint winner of the Hardware Company of the Year category.

Tony Chadwick, Trojan Group’s Managing Director, said, “The National Fenestration Awards are unique in the industry because they’re voted for by people in the industry. It’s a real honour to be recognised by our peers in this way and we’re delighted to have won.”

Michelle Orpe of the Awards said, “Much time is spent dwelling over the frames and glass our industry produces and whilst that’s a fundamental part of our industry, hardware is sometimes overlooked. But its importance is massive. Without its existence, our products would simply not exist. We had a wealth of nominations and were able to draw up a quality shortlist.”

Trojan has always aimed to design products that offer innovative feature benefits at an attractive price point to bring value to fabricators, installers and homeowners alike. It’s an aim that has seen the company go from strength to strength in recent years. Its stainless steel range of hardware, which solves the problem of hardware corrosion, has just seen year on year sales dramatically increase, demonstrating its importance to the industry. Latest developments include the new generation Sparta Window Handle and the Patriot Plus HD Hinge, both of which deliver financial savings without compromising on quality and mean installers won’t need to tie up so much capital in stock.

Tony Chadwick says, “We’re very proud of our product range and are delighted that it’s received recognition with this award. We owe a big thank you to the Trojan team who bring such high quality to market. We also need to thank Jane Ward of Team 4 Marketing Limited who has helped raise our profile in recent years and made many more people aware of the quality we offer.”

Trojan Press Release: Failing Products
4th December, 2013

The solution to failing hardware that affects your reputation as well as your bottom line

Now that the colder months have arrived, many installers will have started experiencing the annual increase in callouts for window and door hardware finish failure.

Tony Chadwick, Trojan Group Managing Director, says, “Hardware finish failure is something that’s constantly on installer’s agendas because it’s increasingly a problem. Quite simply, zinc-based and aluminium or painted products will corrode sooner or later as a result of salt, acid erosion or a damaged surface. Our recent cold winters have accelerated the process for many products.”

As Tony points out, increasing numbers of callouts affect not only your bottom line but also your reputation, so it’s hardly surprising that many are searching for a solution.

Tony says, “Many installers turn to the British Standard for help finding a reliable product. BS EN 1670 Class 4 corrosion resistance means a product has successfully withstood 240 hours of salt spray testing is defined as meaning the product is suitable for service in outdoors conditions. Yet as many installers have found out, that’s no indicator of resilience.”

Increasing numbers of fabricators and installers are turning to stainless steel as the answer. The Trojan Group’s stainless steel range of door and window hardware saw a tremendous increase in sales throughout the year. Stainless steel products are extremely hard-wearing and more than capable of withstanding the most ferocious of winters without losing their good looks or functionality. In fact, so confident is the Trojan Group in the corrosion resistance of its stainless steel products that they all come with a 25 year anti-corrosion guarantee.

The Trojan Group’s range comprises T-hinges, letterplates, door knockers, door numbers, numerals and handles. The Sparta Door handle is available at three price points. For budget projects, there’s the Standard range, which has stainless steel external faces and white or black inner faces. For mid-market projects there’s the Premium range, which has stainless steel external faces and zinc chrome or gold PVD inner faces. And for high-end projects, there’s the Elite range, which has stainless steel external and internal faces.

The Trojan Group’s stainless steel hardware gives all sectors of the market a product with corrosion resistance that will last the lifetime of the door it’s fitted on. As Tony says, “Can your business afford not to use stainless steel?

Trojan Press Release: Pearl Windows
4th December, 2013

Trojan Group, Pearl Windows and Total Hardware celebrate a winning relationship

The Trojan Group has just announced it will be sponsoring promising youngster Aaron Walsh in the 2014 Junior Max British Karting Championships. Tony Chadwick, Trojan Group’s Managing Director, said, “We are delighted to be sponsoring such a talented young man. He is driven to achieve excellence and success in his chosen field just as we are in ours, so it’s a good match.”

The sponsorship came about through Trojan’s relationship with Bolton’s Pearl Windows. Pearl’s Managing Director, Jeff Walsh, is Aaron’s father. Jeff says, “We are very proud of our son and do whatever we can support him. I’d like to thank Trojan for their sponsorship, which will go a long way to helping Aaron to build on his successes.”

Trade fabricator Pearl Windows is a loyal Trojan Group customer. Jeff Walsh says, “We have a great relationship with Trojan and value their commitment to our business. Their products offer valuable feature benefits and Trojan’s customer service is excellent.” Tony Chadwick echoes Jeff’s enthusiasm, saying, “We love working with customers like Pearl Windows. The company is one of the UK’s leading and fastest growing fabricators and is genuinely committed to delivering excellence in every area. It’s great to be able to support them in this commitment.”

Pearl buys a range of Trojan products through one of Trojan’s main distributors, Total Hardware, which is based in Leeds. Andy Cunningham, Managing Director at Total Hardware says the partnership with Trojan Group has proven to be a winning formula because of the suited range of products, their unique design, performance and quality. One of the key Trojan products Pearl Windows uses is the Midi flag hinge because it’s ideal for slimmer frames and doesn’t encroach on plaster lines. It’s adjustable in three dimensions with concentric compression adjustment and is supplied assembled and ready to fit, dramatically improving the fitting process. Jeff says, “We researched the market when choosing our flag hinge. The Trojan hinge offered the aesthetics we were looking for, as well as being very easy to adjust in the installation process.”

It’s often said that business is all about relationships and it seems that the one between Pearl Windows, Total Hardware and the Trojan Group is paying dividends. And if Aaron Walsh drives his way to success next year, they’ll be another winning relationship to celebrate!

Trojan Release: Vietnam Expansion
20th November, 2013

Trojan expands its Vietnam manufacturing operation

The Trojan Group has just announced the expansion of its manufacturing operation in Vietnam. Tony Chadwick, Trojan’s Group Managing Director said, “The additional capacity will allow us to keep pace with growing demand for our products and continue to keep manufacturing in-house so we can maintain our stringent quality standards.”

The new build expansion will give the Group a further 20,000 square metres of manufacturing space. Tony Chadwick has just returned from a trip to the plant where he took part in a ceremony to mark the start of work on a new building. Work is due to complete in 2014.

The Vietnam plant opened its doors earlier this year, joining Trojan China as the Group’s second overseas manufacturing facility, and the expansion is a sign of how Trojan’s sales are going from strength to strength. But Tony is clear that growing sales were not the only reason for the expansion.

Tony says, “The investment we are making in Vietnam undoubtedly strengthens our ability to meet our customers’ demands. It also allows us to offer stability as all the signs are that production costs in China will rise in the coming years, not least because the value of the pound is weakening. By forward planning like this, we can help to protect our customers’ business from rising prices and market forces, helping them to keep control over their costs.”

In short, Trojan’s level of commitment to its customers not only covers the quality and engineering of its products but the bigger picture too. With commitment like that, it’s not surprising the company is having to expand its manufacturing capabilities!

The Fabricator – Feature article Trojan
25th September, 2013

Failing products reflect badly on your reputation and your bottom line

Christmas isn’t the only thing that’s just around the corner. As we head into the colder months, now is the time when some fabricators and installers will be bracing themselves for the annual increase in callouts for window and door hardware failure.

Hardware failure is something that’s increasingly on installer’s agendas because it’s increasingly a problem. The simple fact is that zinc-based plated products will corrode sooner or later as a result of salt, acid erosion or a damaged surface. Our recent cold winters have speeded up the process for many products, leading to an increase in callouts to deal with product failure.

When it’s the occasional product, a callout is a minor irritation. When the numbers of callouts increase, it becomes more than that.

Most obviously, there’s the impact on your bottom line. The cost of the replacement product might be small, but that’s only the start. There are the man hours needed to travel to site and replace it, not to mention the knock-on effect having one of your teams on a callout has on the rest of your schedule. Before too long, product failure starts to have a significant impact on your bottom line.

Then there’s your reputation to consider. If your reputation is built around quality, you’re jeopardising it by having one of the components on your products failing. Your reputation is hard-won and vital, especially in these still fragile economic times, so you need to take care to preserve it at all costs.

So what’s the solution? Many fabricators and installers will have turned to the British Standard for help finding a reliable product. BS EN 1670 offers guidance for the specification of an appropriate level of corrosion resistance. Class 4 corrosion resistance (there are five classes in total), which means a product has successfully withstood 240 hours of salt spray testing is defined as meaning the product is suitable for service in outdoor conditions. Perfect, you might think. Yet as many of you will know, many products have achieved this standard and will have found out that it’s no indicator of resilience.

There is another solution, though, and it’s a much better one. It’s stainless steel hardware. The Trojan Group’s stainless steel range of door and window hardware saw a 300% increase in sales last year, evidence that increasing numbers of fabricators and installers are turning to stainless steel as the long term answer to the problem.

So what is it that stainless steel offers? Quite simply, superior corrosion resistance. Stainless steel products are extremely hard-wearing and more than capable of withstanding the most ferocious of winters without losing their good looks or functionality. In fact, so confident is Trojan in the corrosion resistance of its stainless steel products that they all come with a 25 year anti-corrosion guarantee.

Trojan’s stainless steel range comprises t-hinges, handles, letterplates, door knockers, door numbers, numerals and viewers and the products are available in Polished Gold (PVD), Brushed Gold (PVD), Polished Stainless, Brushed Stainless and White powder coated over stainless and offer a perfectly suited solution. Like all Trojan products, the stainless steel range offers superior design benefits. For example, the door handle is fitted with a patented spring cassette that eliminates the familiar “drooping handle” effect, while the letterplate flaps open to 180 degrees, eliminating any excess leverage on pivot points.

Of course, many of you will be thinking that while stainless steel might be the solution to callout woes, there is the initial cost to consider. When price is still a decider for many fabricators and installers, a high specification product might be a step too far on some products. Trojan has recognised this fact and the stainless steel range has three different price points, so projects at all price levels can reap the benefits.

Investment in replacement doors and windows is a significant purchase for most homeowners, while on commercial projects, the specification criteria is clearly defined and exacting. Stainless steel hardware gives all sectors of the market a product with corrosion resistance that will last the lifetime of the window or door it’s fitted on. Isn’t that the least your customers can expect? And more importantly, can your business afford not to provide it?

Trojan Release – Britannia Windows
13th September, 2013

Britannia Windows and the Trojan Group celebrate the benefits of an excellent partnership

When you’re looking for a supplier, you’re looking for a business you can build a long term partnership with while adding value to your own business. One example of such a relationship is the one between Britannia Windows and hardware manufacturer the Trojan Group, who have now been working together for over ten years.

Britannia Windows is based in Clevedon in Somerset. Founded in 1980 it has grown to become one of the biggest manufacturers and installers in the south west. The company works in the retail, trade and commercial markets and manufactures 800 frames per week. The business has enjoyed significant growth in the last few years, and turnover is approaching £25m.

When asked for the secret of his company’s success, Managing Director Hayden Rushton, says, “We supply a well engineered, well made product supplied on time and at the right price. It’s the same principles as Trojan.”

Britannia purchases its window and door handles, door hinges and letter plates from Trojan. According to Hayden, the products are “well-designed, well-engineered, easy to install and come with a long term guarantee, so you can fit and forget. The product quality is beyond doubt.” These benefits are particularly important to Hayden, who says he deliberately chooses specialist suppliers that are led by technical and design considerations. “That way if things need sorting they get done quickly and compromises aren't made on quality. We've had bad experiences with other companies ‘value engineering’ to the extent that the products fail. At the end of the day, even if it’s not our fault, a product failing reflects badly on us as a company and could impact on our reputation in the area.”

But the strength of Britannia’s trust in Trojan goes beyond the straightforward reliability of its products. Hayden says simply, “We like and believe in the people at Trojan.” At the end of the day, when you’ve got products you trust and people you trust, you’ve got the makings of a long-term partnership that adds value to your business, which is exactly what Britannia has got with Trojan.

Trojan Press Release – Letterplate
4th September, 2013

Trojan’s Sparta door handles get the BS EN seal of approval

The Trojan Group has just announced that its Sparta lever door handles have achieved BS EN 1906 lever handles and knob furniture certification. Tony Chadwick, the Group’s Managing Director, said, “All our products are designed to offer quality and durability and the BS EN certification is official recognition that our Sparta lever door handles offer exactly that.”

The certification is very exacting and products are extensively tested before being accredited. The Sparta lever door handles, all of which are designed for general domestic use, achieved a Grade 2 Category of Use, meaning they are certified as suitable for medium frequency of use by people with some incentive to exercise care but where there is some chance of misuse. Not only that, the quality of the handles’ mechanisms meant they achieved Grade 6 Durability, having successfully achieved 100,000 cycles.

Aside from the accreditation, the Sparta range of lever door handles offer a wealth of other benefits. All the handles in the range incorporate a patented spring cassette, which prevents the familiar “drooping handle” effect. The handles all come with a 10 year guarantee against mechanical failure and the stainless steel versions come with an additional 25 year corrosion guarantee. Available in lever and lever/pad options, all the handles offer the sleek, understated aesthetics common to the Sparta range. The standard handle is available in Gold (PVD), Polished Chrome, White and Black, while the all-stainless steel version is available in Polished Gold (PVD), Brushed Gold (PVD), Polished Stainless, Brushed Stainless and White powder coated over stainless.

Trojan’s commitment to quality is well-known in the industry. The BS EN 1906 accreditation on Sparta handles provides external recognition of this quality and gives end users reassurance they’re often looking for.

Trojan Press Release – Letterplate
31st July, 2013

Trojan does it once again

Trojan’s reputation and growth has been built on the design innovation of its products. A perfect example of this is shown in the sales of its stainless steel letterplates. In only 12 months, sales of the letterplate have leapt from 5,000 units per month to over 50,000 per month. Trojan Group Managing Director Tony Chadwick says, “The stainless steel letterplate was carefully designed to offer multiple design improvements and its success demonstrates how much the market values those improvements.”

So what makes the stainless steel letterplate so different from other letterplates on the market? As always with Trojan, there are improvements right across the board.

Firstly, it was one of the first “postman-friendly” letterplates on the market. The intelligent design and attention to detail means that a Trojan letterplate can easily be opened even when the postman is wearing thick gloves in winter.

The stainless steel construction of the product also offers clear benefits thanks to its superb corrosion resistance. It is becoming increasingly clear that traditional zinc-based hardware products simply don’t perform well enough in our increasingly harsh winters and coastal environments. As failure rates on these products increase, the stainless steel alternative looks increasingly attractive – something that the massive increase in sales of Trojan’s stainless steel range last year proves. The stainless steel letterplate gives homeowners a product that looks good, performs well and comes with a 25 year guarantee to prove it.

Finally, installers also benefit with a genuinely “fit and forget” solution. The letterplate is easy to install and, thanks to the stainless steel construction, costly recalls and site visits as a result of product failure are extremely unlikely.

When it comes to hardware, only three things matter: aesthetics, performance and price. Trojan’s stainless steel letter is beautiful to look at, is guaranteed for 25 years and is competitively priced with three price options, so can be used on all projects from budget to premium. It’s perhaps no wonder that sales have leapt so dramatically in the past year!

Glass News – Feature Article
26th June, 2013

Tony Chadwick, Managing Director of the Trojan Group, shares the secrets of his company’s hardware success with Glass News.

The Trojan Group has seen strong and sustained sales growth in each of the past five years. Given the tough economic climate that has affected so many so badly, I think this demonstrates we’re doing something right.

We attribute our success to several reasons. Firstly, our investment in high quality, innovative products that add value to our customers’ businesses. A perfect example of this is in our new generation Stallion 3 Window Lock and the Sparta 3 Window Handle. We recognised that in this economic climate we needed to focus on developing products that offered financial benefits without compromising on the quality. The result is that this new generation of products deliver outstanding features but – more importantly – because we have designed them to have reduced variations and stocking levels, they offer up to 50% financial savings. The developments mean you don’t need to tie up so much capital in stock, helping you to run your business. Then there’s our range of market leading stainless steel products, developed to offer the ultimate in corrosion resistance. With guarantees of up to 25 years on every product in the range, both you and your customers know that the quality and reliability is not in doubt.

All our products are designed and manufactured within the Trojan Group. This guarantees we can keep a tight control over quality and cost, so that in turn you can keep a similarly tight control. It also means we can keep our patented designs and manufacturing processes confidential, which many people demand. This control and traceability is very difficult to maintain when complete products are outsourced.

You can also see our commitment to supporting our customers in our manufacturing plants. As well as a UK base, we also have bases in China and – as of this year – Vietnam. In China, we have recently implemented optimised lean manufacturing and are continuing to automate manufacturing processes. As a result, we have increased production capacity while further improving quality and maintaining competitive prices. The investment we are making in Vietnam strengthens our ability to meet your requirements. It also allows us to offer stability as all the signs are that production costs in China will rise in the coming years, not least because the value of the pound is weakening. By forward planning like this, we can help to protect your business from rising prices and market forces, helping you to keep control over your costs.

Trojan Group is one of the largest privately owned window and door hardware manufacturers and our independence allows us to deliver a rapid and personal response at all times, something which all our customers have come to expect. It also lets us take the time to listen to you and react to your needs so we can be a valuable partner to you.

Of course, the biggest reason for our success is the support of our customers. They provide us with valuable input to our new and existing product ranges and tell us how we can help them in their businesses. One example of this is the recent launch of our first consumer brochure that helps our customers showcase to homeowners the quality of the hardware they use. It’s easy to think of hardware as a secondary component in windows and doors: U values and energy efficiency, for example, offer much more immediate benefits for consumers. But the right choice of hardware can make a real difference. Our products help you in your business and help to make your customers’ enjoyment of their windows and doors even greater. It’s simply a winning combination.

Trojan retail brochure release
15th May, 2013

Trojan’s consumer brochure is a big hit

The Trojan Group has just launched a retail brochure aimed at providing consumers with an insight into the choices available for their window, door and conservatory hardware. Launched at the FIT Show, it proved a winning concept for both existing customers and prospective ones.

Tony Chadwick, Trojan Group’s Managing Director, said, “Our customers were telling us they wanted to make more of the fact they were using high quality Trojan hardware. Our retail brochure is designed to help consumers understand the quality their supplier is using and the wealth of options available. We want to encourage consumers to see that their hardware can be both practical and beautiful – the jewels on their product as it were.”

The brochure introduces consumers to Trojan and the quality of the design and materials in all of the company’s products. It then takes the consumer through the Trojan range and what it has to offer.

This is the first piece of consumer-facing literature that Trojan has released, and judging by the reaction at the FIT Show, it looks set to become a valuable part of installers’ toolkits. Tony says, “The market is still tough out there, so installers need to differentiate themselves wherever they can. Being able to give consumers literature that showcases the quality of the hardware they’re using shows attention to detail and a commitment to a high quality result. It could make the difference between clinching a sale or not.”

Trojan hardware has been valued by the industry for its quality for many years. With the launch of this new brochure, installers can now show that quality to consumers.

To order copies of the brochure, contact Trojan customer service on 01922 713933.

Trojan Fit Show
22nd April, 2013

Trojan Group celebrates outstanding FIT Show

The Trojan Group’s sales team is going to have a busy few weeks following up on enquiries made at the FIT Show. The company’s stand was busy throughout all three days of the show and staff were inundated with enquiries. Tony Chadwick, Trojan’s Group Managing Director said, “Our existing customers were extremely interested in our newest products, the Stallion 3 Window Lock and the Sparta 3 Window Handle. But we also got a lot of interest from potential new customers. We are one of the biggest hardware names in the industry and we’ve got a reputation for quality and innovation. But sometimes, people need to see the products for themselves to understand just how much they have to offer. The FIT Show was the perfect opportunity for people to do that and we were overwhelmed with the interest we received.”

As Tony says, Trojan’s two newest products attracted a lot of attention from existing customers who already understand the value that Trojan can bring to a business. The Stallion 3 is suitable for all applications from zero to 1300mm and fits PVC-U profiles or profiles with standard Eurogroove applications. Apart from the minimised inventory, one of the advantages of this one size fits all applications approach is the drastically reduced supply lead time, which will help installers to fulfil urgent projects. Meanwhile, the new look Sparta 3 handle offers a wealth of new benefits without increasing costs or reducing quality and, as usual, has been designed to meet the needs of installers and homeowners alike.

Trojan’s stainless steel range proved exceptionally popular with both existing and potential customers. All the products in the range come with a 25 year guarantee and offer superb corrosion resistance, something that’s becoming increasingly important with our changeable weather. The range, which comprises a handle, letter plate, door knocker, numerals, spyviewer and flag hinge, has been designed to suite perfectly and because it’s available in three price points, it suits every project budget, making it a great addition to any portfolio.

Trade shows are a great opportunity for the industry to see what’s out there. And judging by the number of enquiries that Trojan received at the FIT Show, people liked what they saw when they got to the Trojan stand.

Trojan Sparta 3

Trojan’s New Sparta 3 Window Handle is its most versatile to date

Trojan has just launched its Sparta 3 Window Handle. Tony Chadwick, Trojan Group’s Managing Director said, “We recognise that fabricators and installers need to remain competitive so the Sparta 3 is a superb handle that adds value but not cost.”

The new look Sparta handle offers a wealth of new benefits without increasing costs or reducing quality or size and, as usual, has been designed to meet the needs of installers and homeowners alike.

Installers will appreciate spindles that are simple to fit and remove and easy to convert when the spindle length changes because it reduces stock variations and frees up cash.

It also offers improved aesthetics, with a more substantial look and an elegant new ergonomic design. Practical improvements include a new action button and a lower base height for additional clearance. The handle has a soft grip for improved comfort and is available in key lockable and non-lockable variations and in-line or cranked variations. It suites perfectly with the other handles in the Sparta range and is available in a full choice of colours including Gold (PVD), Polished Chrome, Satin Silver and White, with special finishes available upon request.

The Sparta 3 Window Handle comes with a 10 year mechanical and finish guarantee, evidence, if any were needed, that its quality is up to Trojan’s usual high standards.

The Sparta 3 is one of the new products that will be on display on Trojan’s stand (2-170) at the FIT Show. The stand will be a showcase for Trojan’s ability to design and manufacture high quality, cost-effective and value-added hardware of which the Sparta 3 is just the latest example.

Trojan Stallion 3
15th March, 2013

Trojan’s Stallion 3 Window Lock offers unique versatility

The Trojan Group is about to launch its Stallion 3 Window Lock. The lock offers a wealth of benefits, as Tony Chadwick, Trojan Group’s Managing Director, explains. “The Stallion 3 has one price for all sizes, above 400mm , and a minimal product inventory because one size fits all applications, helping to free up cash for fabricators and installers’ businesses.”

The Stallion 3 is suitable for all applications from zero to 1300mm and fits PVC-U profiles or profiles with standard Eurogroove applications. Apart from the minimised inventory, one of the advantages of the one size fits all applications approach is the drastically reduced supply lead time, which will help installers to fulfil urgent projects.

Other improvements to the Stallion 3 include increased security: there is a new multi-point locking action, an increased 20mm locking engagement and enhanced night vent security. Twin locking central lugs offer additional strength and security while there guaranteed centre and corner locking with every installation. Finally, the lock has been tested to BSI specified loads and provides improved lock engagement if the sash is jemmy attacked or flexed.

The lock is quick to install, in part because the compact central gear box means minimal routing is required. In addition, off-set locking variants are easily achieved due to the lock’s intelligent design.

The Stallion 3 includes stainless steel / composite corrosion resistant keeps and offers full corrosion resistance for ultimate performance. Proof of the quality of the lock is demonstrated in the 10 year mechanical and corrosion guarantee that it comes with.

The Stallion 3 is the new generation of the iconic Stallion lock and looks set to continue the tradition of being one of the most respected locks on the market. It will be on display on Trojan’s stand (2-170) at the FIT Show.

Trojan launches new look literature

Having key information to hand is vital when making ordering and purchasing decisions. Recognising this, the Trojan Group has just launched a new suite of information literature. Tony Chadwick, the Group’s Managing Director, said, “We’ve designed the literature to provide at-a-glance information to aid busy fabricators and installers.”

There are 18 sheets in total. They cover the key product range and are supplied in a hard-wearing folder for safe keeping. Each sheet lists the features and benefits of the product in question to aid fabricators and installers when they are researching suitable products. There is also technical information on the testing accreditations and guarantees together with practical information such as box quantities and order codes. All in all, the information sheets are a one stop shop for fabricators and installers looking for information on Trojan products.

Tony said, “We know how busy fabricators and installers are. These sheets are designed to make their lives easier by providing a single point of information. We also hope the new designed corporate folder will be useful for holding the information sheets.”

Trojan is renowned for its innovative and ground-breaking hardware products. Browsing through the pack and looking at the whole range is a compelling demonstration of the level of quality and innovation that Trojan offers. In short, apart from providing valuable information, the package is sure to remind people just why Trojan is a market leader in hardware solutions.

Trojan Release – growth of stainless steel range
31st October, 2012

Sales of Trojan’s stainless steel range rise by 300%

The Trojan Group has announced that sales of its stainless steel range of hardware have risen by more than 300% in the past year. Trojan’s Tony Chadwick said, “We introduced an all stainless steel range because we were aware that traditional aluminium and zinc-based hardware products simply don’t perform well enough in our increasingly harsh winters along with demand for increased performance. It seems the market agrees with our opinion.”

As Tony says, aluminium and zinc-based plated products will corrode sooner or later as a result of salt, acid erosion or a damaged surface and our recent prolonged periods of rain and severe winters have speeded up this process for many products. According to Tony, anecdotal evidence suggests that the number of costly recalls and site visits are starting to impact on fabricators and installers’ bottom lines. He adds, “As the increase in sales goes to show, fabricators and installers are increasingly turning to stainless steel because of the benefits it offers. The initial cost might be slightly higher but the 25 year anti-corrosion guarantee we offer on the whole range makes that more than worthwhile.”

Trojan’s stainless steel range comprises T-hinges, Door Handles, Letterplates, Door Knockers, Door Numerals and Letters. Door Handles are available at three different price points too, so all projects can experience the benefits of stainless steel. The Elite range has stainless steel external and internal faces; the Premium range has stainless steel external faces and zinc chrome or gold PVD inner faces and the Standard range has stainless steel external faces and white or black inner faces.

As winter approaches and the number of callouts you get about failing hardware increases, might it be time to consider switching to the Trojan Stainless Steel Range?

News Release – Mega Egress
3rd October, 2012

Trojan’s Mega Egress hinge: now available in reduced stack height option

Trojan’s Mega Egress hinge is set to become even more popular: it’s now available in a reduced stack height option of 13.5mm. This replaces the 14.5mm height and will be available alongside the existing 16.5mm height. This addition means the Mega Egress can now achieve stated U values on a larger number of profile systems.

Tony Chadwick, Trojan Group’s Managing Director, said, “The Mega Egress has proved extremely popular with fabricators and fitters alike. But we were aware that some of our customers weren’t able to take full advantage of its benefits because of the window systems they were working with, this is now no longer the case.”

The 330mm Mega Egress hinge has been a popular product in the Trojan portfolio ever since it was first launched thanks to the classic Trojan combination of value and innovation. Its unique constraint closing feature means it achieves high security and excellent compression without the need for additional hinge protection. It can be used on all side hung applications up to a maximum sash width of 900mm. It can carry up to 40kg, making it ideal for all heavy duty applications, including triple glazed windows. It has been UKAS laboratory tested to BS EN 1670 and exceeds grade 5 classification for ultimate corrosion resistance.

The Mega Egress hinge also reduces the value of stock and variations you need to hold as it is capable of carrying a far wider range of sash sizes compared to conventional friction hinges.

Tony advises any customer wondering whether the reduced stack height option will make it suitable for their particular window system to call the Trojan customer service department on 01922 713 933 for advice.

Trojan is renowned for developing products that meet and exceed the needs of its customers. The addition of a reduced stack height option demonstrates that the company not only listens to its customers to develop new products but to add value to existing ones.

News Release – Trojan Sash Protectors
30th July, 2012

Stay Protected with Trojan

The Trojan Manufacturing Group has recently announced the latest addition to its range: re-usable cover protectors designed to be used with is popular sash lock. Designed for use in building or renovation projects, the PVC protectors can be fitted over the locks to prevent them from being damaged or spoilt while other trades are still working in the property. The protectors save both time and money by removing the risk of having to replace damaged hardware items at a later stage, and are available from stock now.

The protectors have been introduced following customer demand, as Tony Chadwick, Trojan Group’s Managing Director explains: “Damage to hardware products during building or renovation projects will be a familiar complaint for most installers and wastes both time and money. It’s something installers have been putting up with for a long time, but we realised it wasn’t something that was just a ‘fact of life’. The PVC cover protectors prevent damage or spoilage during the messier phases of a building or refurbishment project. Once those phases are complete, the protectors can simply be removed and put away until the next time they’re needed.”

The feedback from the introduction of the sash protectors has been so positive that the company will soon be launching cover protectors for their door handles and backplates.

Trojan is renowned for designing products that makes installers’ lives easier. The introduction of the PVC cover protectors demonstrates that the company’s design team doesn’t just think about products, it also thinks about the process and the real working environments of its customers. There can be no doubt these cover protectors will be a valuable addition to many installers’ toolboxes.

Press Release – Trojan The FIT Show
12th June, 2012

Trojan announces presence at The FIT Show

Renowned hardware designer and manufacturer the Trojan Group announced this week that it will be exhibiting at The FIT Show in Telford in April 2013.

Trojan Group's Managing Director, Tony Chadwick, said of the event, "The FIT Show looks like it's going to be the number one event in next year's industry calendar, so we felt it was important to have a presence. We're very proud of our extensive product range and our stand will showcase the value we can add to fabricators' and installers' portfolios."

A visit to Trojan's stand will be essential for many visitors to the show. Customers and non-customers alike will be impressed by what the range has to offer in terms of innovation and quality. Press Release – Trojan RTD Handle
22nd May, 2012

Trojan's RTD handle helps compliance with Equality Act 2010 legislation

The 2010 Equality Act has far-reaching consequences for fabricators and installers, especially those working in the public or commercial sectors. Why? Because, amongst other things, it gives disabled people important rights not to be discriminated against in accessing everyday goods and services and it requires employers to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people. In short, it means architects and specifiers will be paying closer attention to their choices.

Trojan's latest product helps fabricators and installers to help their customers in complying with Equality Act. The RTD (return to door) handle makes it easier for the infirm or anyone with a disability to open a door. It meets the requirements of the BS 8300:2009 Design of buildings and their approaches to meet the needs of disabled people specification.

Aside from meeting the BS EN requirements, the RTD handle also has Trojan's renowned quality and attention to detail. It's manufactured from zinc, so it's suitable for internal and external use. It's also available in a full choice of colours and finishes, so the handle will suit any design project.

Tony Chadwick, Trojan's Managing Director, said, "We are all becoming more and more aware of the need for equality for all sectors of the population. Those of us who are able-bodied can have no idea of the everyday challenges faced by people with a disability. As designers and manufacturers, we have a responsibility to ensure we aren't inadvertently discriminating against any part of the population. We're proud to be launching our RTD handle and helping to meet that responsibility."

Trojan Release – door and window hinge protectors
3rd April, 2012

Trojan introduces door and window hinge protectors

Trojan has just introduced door and window hinge protectors to its range. They will add value to installers' and fabricators' portfolios – and assist homeowners by offering improved energy efficiency and increased security.

The security and energy efficiency of windows has been under the spotlight for several years. The steep rises in energy prices mean that pressure to provide energy efficient products has come from all sides.

Until now, the fact that energy was lost around the hinge area of a window has been seen as inevitable. But never one to bow to the inevitable, Trojan set about seeing what could be done to minimise that loss while improving the overall security of the product.

The results are the new hinge protectors which are designed to be suitable for all profiles and are available from stock.

So how does a hinge protector work? Like all Trojan products, it's deceptively simple. The hinge protector fits in the hinge area of a door or window. It's a silver zinc hook which slides into the plastic pocket which is fitted to the static frame. Not only does the protector maintain or improve the gasket seal and hence the U-value of the door or window, it also increases security by improving anti-jemmy protection.

Tony Chadwick, Trojan's Managing Director, said, "The energy efficiency of windows has come on leaps and bounds in the past few years, yet there are still areas for improvement. We've proved that hinges don't have to be a heat loss area by introducing a product that helps fabricators and installers to maintain the energy efficiency of their products and saves householders some money on their energy bills."

Trojan's products have a reputation for adding value to fabricators' and installers' businesses. The hinge protectors confirm Trojan's commitment to adding value to end users' lives too.

Press Release - Trojan
14th March, 2012

Trojan's Mega Egress hinge now available for even more profiles

Trojan's Mega Egress hinge has been adding value to fabricators' and installers' portfolios for several years. The response from customers was it was just what they needed, but there was also valuable feedback on how it could be enhanced. Always a company to listen to what the market needs, Trojan took the Mega Egress hinge back to the drawing board and has just released the new and improved version.

Tony Chadwick, Trojan Group's Managing Director, said, "The Mega Egress hinge is an invaluable product for many of our customers, but there was still room for improvement. Our customers told us how they'd like it to be suitable for more profiles, so we've reduced the stack height to 13.5mm which means it can be used much more widely. We've also further increased its overall strength and made the opening and closing action much smoother."

The ability to cater for more profiles will be good news for many because the Mega Egress hinge offers many benefits that other comparable hinges don't. One size fits all side hung applications up to 900mm sash width, helping to reduce inventory. It's incredibly strong too – it has the capability of 40kg+ plus load. It has an integral easy clean option and an auto locking facility to revert back to normal operation, making it very user-friendly. A unique selling feature means high security without the need for additional protection combined with guaranteed compression due to the innovative design means minimal heat loss.

The hinge's quality is demonstrated in its BBA accreditation and its achieving in excess of grade five on the tests for BS EN 1670, meaning it has ultimate corrosion resistance.

Trojan's willingness to go back to the drawing board to improve products in response to customer feedback is admirable. The Mega Egress hinge has already proved its worth over the years to countless fabricators and installers. The new version will prove its worth to countless more.

News Release – Trojan Face Fix Door Knocker
7th February, 2012

Trojan launch innovative door knocker

The Trojan Group has just added a door knocker to its all stainless steel range of door furniture. Called the Face Fix Door Knocker, its unique design removes the need for installers to drill through the entire door when fitting.

As every installer knows, fitting the hinges, handles and door accessories such as the door knocker to a door can take a lot of time. Trojan recognises this and all its products are designed to save the installer time and money. The Face Fix Door Knocker can be fitted in a matter of moments because there's no need to drill through the entire door. It's completely secure when installed, but should it need to be removed for any reason, that's quick and straightforward too.

The Face Fix Door Knocker is part of Trojan's all stainless steel range, which also includes a letterplate, t-hinge, door handle, letters and numbers to allow the installer to create a stylish, uniform and – above all – durable look. So confident is Trojan in the corrosion resistance and durability that the range offers, every product in it comes with a 25+ year guarantee.

Available in a full choice of finishes including polished and brushed gold (PVD), polished and brushed stainless steel, white and black, it has the versatility to suit any house for years to come.

Trojan's stainless steel range has been extremely well-received by the market and the introduction of the Face Fit Door Knocker looks like its success will continue.

Press Release – Trojan/Warmseal
13th December, 2011

Warmseal and Trojan celebrate a perfect partnership

In these difficult times, choosing the right supplier is more important than ever. Newcastle's Warmseal is a commercial, retail and trade supplier of windows, doors and conservatories and is reaping the benefits of making the right choice when it comes to window and door hardware.

Warmseal purchases the Sparta casement window handle and the Mega Egress window hinge from the Trojan Group. The company has been working with Trojan for around ten years, a long-standing partnership in a volatile market and Ian Glenister of the company is clear why his company has retained Trojan as a hardware supplier throughout this time: "It's the quality of products, innovation in design, technical support and reliability of supply at a competitive price. Trojan products allow us to compete both on price and on technical value in a difficult market."

He says that the partnership offers other benefits too, not least the standard of service. "Trojan is probably our most reliable supplier of hardware. Orders are nearly always despatched quickly, on time and in full. On the odd occasion when issues have arisen the reaction is swift and decisive in putting things right."

Warmseal supplies products throughout the UK. The company has been established for over 24 years and has a deserved reputation for quality: amongst other achievements it was one of the first companies in the UK to achieve Secured by Design accreditation, all of its products are British Standard accredited and all of its installers operate within the British Standard Kitemark for Window and Door Survey and Installations. The company has also just achieved the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard.

Tony Chadwick, the Trojan Group's Managing Director, said, "All of our customers place an emphasis on quality, something that Warmseal perfectly demonstrates. Feedback from customers such as Warmseal reminds us of the importance of our own commitment to quality."

When you choose a new supplier, you're always taking a risk. But when a company like Trojan can provide testimonials of the quality of Warmseal's, you're minimising that risk.

Trojan Release – Ferrous Steel
1st December, 2011

Hard winters take their toll on ferrous steel, zinc and aluminium based exterior door furniture

Tony Chadwick, Managing Director of the Trojan Group, like many others in the industry, is becoming increasingly aware of the harm our hard winters can do to ferrous steel, zinc or aluminium based painted or plated exterior door furniture such as handles and letter plates. Tony explains, "Salt, acid erosion or a damaged surface will eventually result in corrosion on zinc-based plated products and sooner or later they will show signs of failure. The hard winters we've had recently have speeded up the process for many products."

Most products in the industry, including Trojan's, are certified as having achieved the current BS EN Grade 4 or 5 standard – an indication of having achieved 240/480 hours corrosion resistance and the highest grade available – yet some are still failing. This is something that concerns Tony. "If products are classed as meeting the highest standards, but are not able to withstand the climate, that suggests that the standard needs reviewing."

As a result of the effects of acid erosion, there is an increasing demand from fabricators and installers for alternatives to ferrous, aluminium or zinc-based products such as those made from stainless steel. But to date, many manufacturers have struggled to bring such products to market at a viable price.

However, Trojan's reputation for innovation has been demonstrated once again. The products in the company's range of all stainless letter plates, door handles, T-hinges, knockers, letters and numerals comfortably exceed the current BS EN requirements and come with a 25 year guarantee and a competitive price tag.

With anecdotal evidence suggesting that the costs of recalls and site visits are starting to impact on bottom lines, especially on tight margins, it makes increasing sense to invest in Trojan stainless steel every time. Trust Trojan to come up with the solution.

Trojan Release – PAS 24
21st October 2011

PAS 24 option demonstrates Trojan's innovation

The Trojan Manufacturing Group's stainless steel Sparta door handle has proved a popular addition to the company's portfolio. But the introduction of a new option is set to make it more popular than ever: there's now a PAS 24 option that can be retro-fitted. As Tony Chadwick, Trojan's Managing Director, says, "It will help fabricators and installers save a considerable amount of money. Firstly because they can cut down on inventory, but more importantly, because it's an extremely competitively priced unit that can be combined with a standard specification cylinder to give a PAS 24 door handle at an incredible price and with a 25 year guarantee."

Like all Trojan products, the innovation is what makes the difference. The PAS 24 option is a simple surface-mounted cylinder guard that can be fitted without needing to drill through the door. It's an exciting addition to a stainless steel door handle range that already offers an array of benefits and options that make it suitable for a variety of door projects. It's suitable for all locks, available to fit PVC-U and composite doors and in lever/lever and lever/pad with inline and offset options, making it a flexible choice in practical terms. It's flexible aesthetically too thanks to a choice of finishes including polished gold (PVD), brushed gold (PVD), polished stainless steel and brushed stainless steel. And because Trojan understands what the market needs, it brings the benefits of stainless steel to every project, no matter what its budget. The Elite Range has stainless steel external and inner faces. The Premium Range has a stainless steel external face and a zinc chrome or gold (PVD) inner face. The Standard Range has a stainless steel external face and a white or black inner face. The use of 304 stainless steel plus superior quality and design all round means all options come with a 25 year guarantee.

Genuinely "one-size-fits-all" products are rare. Trojan's Sparta door handle was one of those products that really could make that claim. And with the introduction of a PAS 24 option, it's just made that claim even stronger. Trojan's ability to understand what the market needs and provide it at a competitive price is well-known. The PAS 24 option is just another example of this.

Trojan Release – tilt/safe handle
27th July, 2011

The Trojan Group launches its Sparta Tilt/Safe Handle

The Trojan Group has just announced the launch of its latest product: the Sparta Tilt/Safe Handle. The Handle is the perfect combination of clever functionality and elegant looks, continuing in the tradition of all Trojan products.

The Handle’s solid design makes it perfect for both domestic and commercial applications. It is key lockable and incorporates "tilt safe" modes that can either lock the window in the tilt position or restrict the window to opening and closing to and from the tilt position only, providing options for ventilation without compromising on safety – a feature that fabricators and installers will doubtless find a useful selling point.

This functionality is matched with an elegant ergonomic design that suites with all the other products in Trojan’s Sparta range. Available in a full range of finishes including Gold (PVD), Polished Chrome, Satin Gold, Black and White, the handle can be specified to suit any interior.

As with all Trojan products, the Sparta Tilt/Safe Handle has been manufactured to an extremely high standard to give outstanding product performance, something that’s evident in the testing it’s undergone. The Handle has achieved corrosion resistance on all finishes to the requirements of BS EN 1670 Grade 4. It has been endurance tested to 30,000 cycles and abusive load tested to 40Nm. As final evidence of its quality, the Handle comes with a ten year guarantee.

Trojan’s products occupy a special place in the market: outstanding product performance at a competitive price make them must-haves for any fabricator wanting to build a quality portfolio.

Trojan Manufacturing

Renowned throughout the industry for its commitment to quality and innovation, The Trojan Manufacturing Group is the hardware supplier of choice for every discerning fabricator.

About the company

The Trojan Manufacturing Group was established in 1996 as Trojan Hardware and Designs Ltd to design and deliver hardware solutions that offer tangible benefits in terms of innovation, security and operational performance. 15 years on, it has bases in the UK and China and continues to exceed the expectations of its customers with its commitment to quality and service.

Its UK bases, which include its state-of-the-art headquarters in Bloxwich, West Midlands, house sales, administration, design and development functions, plus pressure zinc die casting, injection moulding, presswork, tool design and tooling facilities.

Trojan China was formed in 2002 and is based in Suzhou in 9640m_ state-of-the-art premises. Its remit is to complement and strengthen the UK facilities and Trojan UK and Trojan China work jointly on all new products and the development of existing ones.

The products

The Trojan range of window and door furniture is one of the best in the industry. Featuring handles, hinges, espags and shootbolts, including the industry- renowned Stallion 2 shootbolt, every product is designed to offer benefits to both the consumer and the installer. All products have the reassurance of being designed and manufactured by an ISO 9001:2008 accredited company and all have been tested
and accredited to ensure they meet or exceed industry standard requirements.

One of the company’s biggest recent successes has been its Elite range of all-stainless steel letterplates, door handles, hinges, letters, numbers and door knockers which all come with an astonishing 25 year guarantee thanks to their corrosion resistance. All the products in the range display Trojan's talent for innovative and stylish design. The letterplate has flaps that open to 180 degrees, eliminating the possibility of excess leverage on the pivot points and extending the lifespan. The t-hinge offers fully 3D adjustment and linear compression. It uses the same ‘lift on/lift off’ principle as a conventional flag hinge so there are no loose fiddly parts, making fitting quicker and easier. The stainless steel door handle incorporates a patented spring cassette, which prevents the familiar “drooping handle” effect.

The Elite range has recently been joined by the Combi range, which brings the benefits of stainless steel to projects with smaller budgets and was introduced in response to customer feedback. The Standard option has stainless steel external faces and standard white inner faces while the Premium option has stainless steel external faces and zinc chrome or gold PVD inner faces.

Other recent innovations include the trillion door hinge and the Tilt safe tilt and turn handle to complement the existing range. The Trillion door hinge has a unique design that doesn’t use reinforced sections yet still achieves PAS 24, something that improves its environmental credentials without compromising on strength. An all-stainless steel construction gives it ultimate corrosion resistance and strength and means that Trojan can offer a 25+ year corrosion and mechanical guarantee.

Whilst Trojan always seeks to develop new products and solutions it also constantly seeks to improve existing ones. A new anti-droop spring cassette, which doesn’t rely on the spindle or door lock to give a perfectly aligned handle every time and comes with a ten year guarantee, has recently been introduced on all its white, gold PVD and chrome door handles.

Service and support

Trojan works extremely hard to ensure that the quality of its service matches the quality of its products. The Group aims to be both proactive and reactive to help support customers. Its sales team is made up of experienced, friendly and professional individuals who are on hand to support customers and answers any questions they may have relating to products or orders.

The technical sales support team is very hands-on and members of the team work with customers throughout the UK on every aspect of product advice and training. Finally, a comprehensive range of product literature, available electronically or in hard copy, helps customers to grow their businesses.

The Trojan Manufacturing Group demands excellence in all areas of its business, whether that’s product innovation or customer support. In doing so it adds value to its customers’ businesses and is rightly respected throughout the industry.

Trojan release – Mega Egress
6th June, 2011

Trojan demonstrates its forward-thinking credentials towards triple glazing

Triple glazing is all over the industry press at the moment and it looks set to be the next big thing. The general consensus seems to be that if consumers are looking for energy efficiency then three panes rather than two is the answer.

Adding triple glazed units to a portfolio is a great way to appeal to the eco-conscious consumer and those fabricators and installers who lead the way in promoting them will undoubtedly reap the rewards. Triple glazed units will also offer another way to help meet the increasingly stringent energy efficiency regulations.

But, as The Trojan Manufacturing Group’s Tony Chadwick points out, we should sound a note of caution at the same time as celebrating the advent of triple glazing. “Triple glazing offers lots of benefits. But the extra pane means extra weight, something that has an impact on the hardware that you use. In order to support the additional weight, all the components, especially the hinge, needs to be very carefully specified.”

True to its innovative roots, Trojan already has a hinge that can meet the demands of triple glazed units: the Mega Egress hinge. As well as being able to support triple glazed units (it’s been tested to over 25,000 cycles under a 40kg operational load), it also offers numerous other benefits.

Advantages for installers include the fact that the Mega Egress can be adjusted when in situ without the need to move or realign the window unit as a whole, something that’s particularly useful when dealing with the additional weight of a triple glazed unit.

The hinge also has much to offer green consumers. The superior mechanical design and strength means it offers a 100% seal on the gasket that closes the window, increasing energy efficiency. It’s manufactured from stainless steel too, which enhances its green credentials still further. That’s because stainless steel is 100% recyclable and the main source of raw material for its manufacture is recycled scrap metal.

Trojan is renowned for being innovative and the Mega Egress hinge perfectly demonstrates why. It was launched nearly two years ago and is well-proved in the market place already, making it perfect for fabricators looking for reliable hardware for triple glazed units so they can stay one step ahead of their competitors.

Trojan Group Release – Trillion Hinge
27th April, 2011

Trojan group launches Trillion hinge

The Trojan Group has just launched its latest product – the Trillion hinge. As with all Trojan products, the hinge is packed with design features that set the bar for innovation and quality in all areas.

One of the major features is the hinge’s unique design, which doesn’t rely on reinforced sections to achieve PAS 24. Tony Chadwick, the Trojan Group’s Managing Director said, “Not having reinforced sections is good for environmental reasons, but we didn’t want to compromise on strength as a consequence. Our unique design means that we don’t.”

Another key feature is the all-stainless steel construction, which gives the Trillion hinge ultimate corrosion resistance and strength. Using 304 pressed stainless steel means that Trojan is able to offer a 25+ year corrosion and mechanical guarantee.

Aside from these clear benefits, the Trillion hinge offers a myriad of benefits for the fabricator and installer. The hinges self-align vertically and laterally simultaneously during installation whilst speeding up the fabrication process. Installing the hinges is easy too, thanks to them being fully pre-assembled with no loose parts, full 3D and 360 degree compression adjustment and the integral click-stop feature that retains the compression adjustment.

Another unique feature is the door can be fitted, and removed, as a conventional flag hinge. Furthermore, the symmetrical design with integral sliding top pivot means the door sash can be simply lifted off.

It also has the benefit of a slim base (approximately 18mm) and shallow height (approximately 15mm), which mean the hinge has ample clearance if the plaster line protrudes. The hinge has been designed so it can be used in traditionally tricky installations too: the low pivot pin heights (approximately 15mm) mean doors can be fitted in recessed or restricted settings.

The homeowner hasn’t been forgotten in the Trillion hinge’s design either. Security is top notch thanks to the Eurogroove clamp block, which provides a consistently secure fixing, plus there is a PAS24 accredited high security option for situations where that’s needed. Finally, the hinge has been cycle tested to 100,000 cycles with an 80kg load on two hinges, providing the reassurance of longevity.

The Trojan Group is proud of its history of designing and manufacturing high quality hardware products that offer improvements on the traditional design. The Trillion hinge, with its all stainless steel construction and unique non-reinforced design, demonstrates that this history is very much part of the company’s present.

Trojan Release – Combi Stainless Steel Range
8th March, 2011

Trojan demonstrates its commitment to product development

The Trojan Manufacturing Group has just announced its latest product development that again demonstrates its commitment to innovative and customer-focussed design. The development is the Combi stainless steel range, an extension of the already popular all-stainless steel range

The stainless steel range of letterplates, door handles, letters, numbers and door knockers has been one of Trojan's biggest recent successes. But feedback from customers demonstrated that the range had further to go. Tony Chadwick, Trojan's Group Managing Director, explains, "Customers were telling us just how valuable an addition to their portfolios our stainless steel range was. But they also told us there was a big market for products that used stainless steel on external faces but other materials on inner faces. Such products would bring the benefits of stainless steel to projects with smaller budgets."

This feedback has led to an extension to the stainless steel letterplate and door handle offerings with the introduction of the Combi range. The Combi range comprises Standard and Premium options to maximise the market coverage. The Standard range has a stainless steel external face and standard white/black inner faces while the Premium range has a stainless steel external face and zinc chrome or gold PVD inner. To avoid confusion, the all-stainless steel letterplates and door handles will be known as the Elite range. All products are available now and are already proving to be very popular.

The Trojan Group's commitment to product development is a cornerstone of its ethos. This latest product development demonstrates it is as committed to finding innovative ways to solve old problems and meeting the needs of its customers as ever.

Trojan Manufacturing Group – Release
14 January, 2011

Trojan's latest launches completes its stainless steel door furniture suite

Innovative door and window hardware manufacturer the Trojan Group has just launched the latest products in its stainless steel door furniture suite. The sleek and stylish stainless steel door knockers, letters and numbers offer ultimate corrosion resistance and display the combination of quality and competitive pricing that Trojan customers have come to expect.

The door knockers, letters and numbers join the three other products in the stainless steel range: the letterplate, the t-hinge and the door handle. Together, the stainless steel range offers a beautifully suited solution and makes Trojan a one stop shop for door furniture. But what's likely to be more eye-catching is the suite's practicality. The stainless steel provides superb corrosion resistance – the letterplate passed the 1000 hour salt spray corrosion resistance test on all finishes – which means that Trojan can offer an impressive 20+ year guarantees on all products in the range.

All the products in the range display Trojan's talent for innovative and stylish design. They are all available in a range of finishes and suite with other products in the Trojan portfolio. The stainless steel letterplate was the first not to have a plastic surround, giving it a sleek and stylish finish. The return spring is made from stainless steel too, giving it a longer lifespan than the usual plastic spring. The flaps open to 180 degrees, eliminating the possibility of excess leverage on the pivot points, something that also extends the lifespan.

The stainless steel t-hinge offers fully 3-dimensional compression adjustment and uses the same installation as a conventional flag hinge utilising a telescopic action on the base so there are no loose parts to fit together, all of which makes fitting quicker and easier. It has a stylish, slimline appearance: its base is just 18mm and the shallow flag height makes it unobtrusive. The method used to fix the hinge in place offers very high security, even when the profile isn't reinforced, plus the hinge is still secure even when the external screws are removed.

The stainless steel door handle incorporates a patented spring cassette, which prevents the familiar "drooping handle" effect seen in inferior door handles and demonstrates the handle's quality.

In short, with consumers looking for the perfect combination of value for money, quality and style it looks as though Trojan has got it right again.

Trojan News release – composite door hinge
25th November, 2010

Trojan introduces its 3D Composite Door Hinge

The Trojan Manufacturing Group has just announced the latest addition to its range: the 3D Composite Door Hinge. The hinge offers the unbeatable combination of innovation, quality and price that Trojan's customers have come to expect.

The hinge can be adjusted in all planes, making it extremely quick and easy to fit. Tony Chadwick, Trojan's Managing Director, says, "We are confident that the hinge will make installers' lives easier. It can be adjusted on site in seconds, cutting installation times and saving money." Despite the 3D innovation the hinge is also extremely competitively priced, making the hinge even more attractive to fabricators and installers looking to cut costs without cutting quality.

Trojan sets trends in quality and looks

Terry Dolman, Group Technical Director at Trojan, discusses his company's approach to design trends in window and door hardware

When Trojan was founded, its remit was to create products that offered tangible benefits to fabricators, installers and end users. With such an ambitious remit, it's perhaps not surprising that when it comes to hardware design Trojan tends to start trends rather than follow them.

We have our team of experienced engineers in the UK and in our Chinese division,Trojan China, led by its Managing Director Graham Kwan, to thank for our products. The understanding our engineers have of the market and their enthusiasm for improving window and door hardware to give fabricators, installers and end users what they need cannot be underestimated.

For example, our Stallion 1 shootbolt offered a fast-fit telescopic design with an auto-setting function, eliminating the need for cropping, resulting in it being one of the fastest fitting shootbolts on the market.

Convinced there were further benefits available, our engineers designed the Stallion 2 which offered even faster fitting times and improved product performance, at a similar price. The Stallion shootbolt was originally designed for PVC-U windows but now has timber and aluminium derivatives in recognition of these growing markets. Every new product offers the same level of engineering innovation and excellence as the Stallion range. Our latest products are a Trillion T-hinge and also a composite door hinge or fitted doors which offer unsurpassed technical advantages, both with high security and simple three-dimensional adjustment in all planes.

Performance criteria met

Of course, however much we like to set trends with our innovations and product benefits, it's also true that a benefit is only a benefit if the market acknowledges it. Our sales figures – which have just shown a 30% plus year-on-year growth – suggest that our products really do answer the market's needs and offer the quality and benefits it wants. For example, in all market sectors, there has been an increasing need for products to meet stringent quality, safety and technical requirements. All our products have been tested against the most stringent requirements and meet appropriate British Standards requirements. Many of our products, including the Patriot door flag hinges and the Sparta 1 and 2 window handles are all approved to BBA standard.

To take another example, security has become an increasingly important issue for householders, and hence for our industry. Our latest products answer these concerns. The Trillion T-hinge and composite door hinge have high security PAS 24-1 options, while our Pegasus window locking mechanism meets the highest of security demands, including exceeding 6Nm in test results - double the current standard
requirement. It also has a full security function on the central rising locking cams, unlike many others on the market which are only superficial.

Good looks

The market has also become increasingly interested in aesthetics and the looks of a product are just as important as the engineering. Our new stainless steel range is a good example of this. The range started
with the letterplate - one of the first not to include an unsightly surround. It has a stainless steel return spring that offers greater resilience than the traditional plastic version, and flaps that open to 180° to eliminate the possibility of excess leverage. The Trillion T-hinge offers an unobtrusive solution with fully 3-dimensional alignment, compression adjustment and comes preassembled with no loose parts. These products combine to make an elegantly suited solution. But the addition of stainless steel door knockers, spy viewers and numbers and letters means that householders can have high quality engineering, security, peace of mind and good looks from one source and in matching colours.

Fast fitting to reduce costs

While security and good looks are high up on the list of the market's demands, in our industry and in this climate, there's one thing that's more important than any other: cost. All Trojan's products offer something in this area. They are all designed to be fast fitting despite any other advantages they may offer. The Pegasus offers exceptional security, with incredibly fast fitting times due to the method of secure engagement in the central lock and in the corners of the window. They are all manufactured using the highest quality stainless materials: our stainless range offers ultimate corrosion resistance, which is why
they come with a 20+ year guarantee. They are all very highly engineered, minimising the hidden costs that come from product recalls or site visits. All these benefits mean that fabricators save money bysaving time and increasing efficiency. And let's face it, those are trends that never go out of style.

Trojan Group launches new stainless steel door handle

The Trojan Group has just announced the launch of its Sparta Stainless Steel Door Handle. Manufactured in 304 stainless steel, giving it ultimate corrosion resistance, the handle is available in Polished Gold (PVD), Brushed, Gold, Satin and Chrome finishes. Such is the quality of the product that Trojan is able to offer a 25 year guarantee on the finishes.

Tony Chadwick, Trojan's Group Managing Director, says of the handle, "The quality and durability of the Sparta Stainless Steel Door Handle is immediately evident. The 25 year guarantee is simply a reflection of our confidence in the product. We're very proud of it and are delighted to be launching it onto the market."

However, the 25 year guarantee is not the only noteworthy feature of the handle. Trojan is renowned for its product innovations and this handle is no exception. It also incorporates a patented spring cassette, eliminating the familiar "drooping handle" effect seen in inferior door handles and further demonstrating the handle's quality.

Despite the quality and innovation on display in the Sparta Stainless Steel Door Handle, Trojan has been able to price it competitively in comparison to similar door handles, something that all fabricators will welcome in these lean times.

The door handle suites with the other handles in the Sparta range giving fabricators the opportunity to offer a coordinated product range. The door handle suits all locks and is available in a lever/lever option too.

Future developments for the door handle include a PAS 24-1 high security option, demonstrating Trojan's commitment to continuous product development and providing fabricators with the high quality hardware they need.

Trojan launches Patriot Stainless Steel T-Hinge onto the market

Trojan Manufacturing Group Ltd has just launched its latest product onto the market: the Patriot Stainless Steel T-Hinge. The T-Hinge joins the 3D Flag Hinge and Midi Hinge in Trojan's Patriot range.

Trojan's remit is to design and manufacture hardware that offers innovative features and benefits for both installers and end-users; and the Patriot T-Hinge is no exception.

Installers will value the fully 3-dimensional compression adjustment that makes fitting quicker and easier. There's another design feature that will make fitting easier too: the hinge is a conventional flag hinge that uses a telescopic action on the base, meaning there are no loose parts to fit together. What's more, it's none-handed, which will help to reduce inventory levels.

There are also a myriad of benefits for the end user, which will mean the Patriot T-Hinge will add value to doors that incorporate it. It has a stylish, slimline appearance: its base is just 18mm and it has a shallow flag height, making it unobtrusive and neat. It's available in a full range of UV-rated finishes including Gold (PVD), Chrome, White, Brown, Black and Tan (and other finishes available upon request too) so it will fit into any scheme.

The method used to fix the hinge in place means it offers very high security, even when the profile isn't reinforced. And even more astonishing is that even when the external screws are removed, thanks to the ingenious design, the hinge is still secure. Finally, the stainless steel construction means it offers unparalleled corrosion resistance and comes with a 20 year guarantee.

As the company goes from strength to strength following its recent move to new UK headquarters, the Patriot T-Hinge demonstrates that the company remains as committed as ever to providing innovative products that support installers and benefit end-users.

Sheffield's Ford Windows first started working with The Trojan Manufacturing Group five years ago. Since then, the relationship has gone from strength to strength and Ford Windows feels that Trojan's products bring multiple benefits.

The first product that Ford took was the Trojan's Mega Egress hinge in its windows. Impressed by the quality and benefits of the product, Ford quickly incorporated the Stallion shootbolt into its product. This decision paid dividends because as a result, Ford was able to achieve BS7950 on its products.

Since then, Ford's relationship with Trojan and the company now takes a wide range of Trojan products including the Patriot Midi Hinge and Patriot High Security Hinge, the Sparta 2 Window Handle and Sparta Door Handle and the Cockspur Handle.

Philip Shackley, Operations Director of Ford Windows, is clear about why his company continues to use Trojan's products. "They offer good customer service, which helps us enormously. But all the good service in the world doesn't make up for an inferior product. The fact is, Trojan's products offer unbeatable quality and innovation and that's why we continue to use them."

Philip knows that Trojan's products are slightly more expensive than similar products from competitors. He's equally as clear that the benefits they bring elsewhere more than make up for the initial extra cost. He says: "The Stallion 2 Shootbolt is quicker and easier to fit and has increased our productivity by 35% on shootbolt window manufacture. The Patriot Midi Hinge comes complete out of the box and no assembly is required therefore reducing the time spent fitting the hinge by 50%."

It's rare for a company to be able to quantify the benefits in this way. But Trojan prides itself on the innovations in its products, so perhaps it's hardly surprising in this case!

Ford Windows works in the new build market and was established in 1976. It manufactures around 1100 windows and 150 doors a week primarily for businesses in the new build market, including Barratts, Taylor Wimpey, David Wilson, Davidsons, Miller Homes and Morris Homes. The company also offers supply and fit services to this sector.

The company's quality is amply demonstrated in its prestigious client list. In Trojan it's got the support of a quality supplier. In short, it's the perfect match!

Trojan Group relocates to new larger premises

Walsall-based window and door hardware manufacturer the Trojan Group has announced that it will be moving to larger premises. The new facilities, which are still based in Walsall, will give the company 46,000 square feet of warehousing, manufacturing and office space bringing benefits for both Trojan and its customers.

The move forms part of the company’s rebranding as the Trojan Group and Tony Chadwick, the Group MD, says, “The relocation demonstrates our commitment to growth and is the commencement of our plan to consolidate and increase our sales and support into the UK and export markets. In addition to this we have a new range of innovative, price competitive products ready to offer and satisfy the market demands.”

The premises are indeed impressive. They treble Trojan’s previous warehousing capabilities and will give Trojan room for continued expansion. Trojan will achieve numerous benefits as a result of the move. It will make considerable operating cost savings because functions will no longer need to be duplicated across multiple sites and it will enable consolidation and strengthening in all departments. Trojan also guarantees its customers will benefit in terms of improved response times and better communication. There will also be improved R&D and testing facilities to support fully tested and certified products to reach the market earlier.

The Trojan Group has planned the move meticulously to ensure that customer service and lead times are unaffected. The new premises will be fully operational in April 2010.

Terry Moore, Commercial Director concludes, “These are exciting times for the Trojan Group and its customers. It will enable us to continue our customer service to the highest standards and increase the range of innovative, quality products expected from the Trojan Group.”

News Release – Trojan - DGS
14 January, 2010

Trojan’s Mega Egress Hinge to be stocked by DGS Group

The DGS Group is delighted to announce it is now stocking the Mega Egress hinge from the Trojan Group. The hinge, which comes in one 330mm size and suits all side hung applications up to 900mm sash width, will supplement DGS’s own range of hinges to create a comprehensive and high quality product suite.

The DGS Group is one of the largest and most successful suppliers to the window and door industry, so its decision to stock the Mega Egress is proof of the hinge’s quality and performance capabilities. It’s also true to say that the Mega Egress has been a quantum leap forward in egress hinge design.

Perhaps the most striking thing about the Mega Egress is that it does not rely on the traditional Anderberg mechanical designs and therefore offers several significant advantages. It has a genuine 90 degree opening with an exceptional load carrying capacity in excess of 40kg. Trojan can also guarantee that there will be no sag or drop when the window is opened, something that’s unavoidable on many standard hinges. The hinge offers a 100% seal on the gasket thanks to the superior mechanical design and strength. Again, this is something that many other hinges fail to achieve since they rely on precision tolerances and numerous clearances on pivot points to allow the hinges to work.

Advantages for installers include the fact that the Mega Egress can be adjusted when in situ without the need to move or realign the window unit as a whole. Benefits for consumers include an easy clean position and auto reset locking back into the egress operation plus a maximised escape aperture.

In addition, the hinge offers increased security benefits over traditional hinges. Because an end cap is not needed, there is none of inherent weakness against attack. Plus proven design technology means that additional hinge protection is not needed to reinforce against break-in attempts.

Alongside all this innovation, the hinge has also achieved several prestigious accreditations. It’s been UKAS laboratory tested to BS EN 1670 and has exceeded grade 5 classification and Marine specification for ultimate corrosion resistance. It’s been tested to over 25,000 cycles under 40kg operational load and to the equivalent of BS7950 security test - 3Kn perpendicular load with 1Kn lateral load. Finally, it is BBA-accredited with certificate number S2-41921.

All these factors mean it’s perhaps hardly surprising that DGS Group has decided to stock the product. And those impressed by the hinge’s capability will be pleased to learn the Trojan Group has plans to introduce a new range of hinges based on the Mega Egress’s innovative design in the New Year – watch this space!

Trojan Press Release

Trojan celebrate their letterplates achieving BS EN 1670:2007 Class 5

Leading hardware design and manufacturer, Trojan, is delighted to announce that its gold, chrome and white powdercoat finish letter plates have all achieved BS EN 1670:2007 class 5, or the 480 hour salt spray corrosion resistance test. The achievement proves that the letterplates are extremely hard-wearing and more than capable of withstanding the most ferocious weather conditions without losing their high quality finishes or functionality.

As anyone who has submitted products for testing to the standard will know, the salt spray test is a very demanding one, but Trojan’s letterplates passed with flying colours. Indeed, their exposure to the salt spray environment was continued to 1000 hours and they still showed no signs of significant breakdown. The testing laboratory’s report went so far as to say, “In our opinion, the products tested showed a superior finish application to the resistance salt spray corrosion testing” and an engineer commented informally that the finishes on the letterplates were among the best he had seen.

Keith Dolman, Trojan Group’s Cad Design Manager, coordinated the testing and was understandably delighted with the result. “The research and development phase for every new product is extremely thorough because we want to provide fabricators, installers and end users with a superior product. We don’t release any new product until we are 100% confident in its quality. Despite this confidence, it’s always pleasing when our products achieve accreditations such as these that prove their excellence.”

He added said, “In this economic climate, it’s more important than ever to have a clearly defined business remit. Ours is to provide high quality fixtures that add value to our customers’ businesses. Achievements such as the salt spray corrosion resistance test provide absolute proof that we are meeting this remit.”

Trojan News Release -Trojan Director Retires
May, 2009

David Jones, Group Production Director, has retired.

David Jones, Group Production Director, has retired after 16 years at the Trojan Group in Walsall, West Midlands. Among many other accomplishments, David was responsible for setting up Trojan’s impressive state of the art manufacturing plant in China which still remains the centre of production excellence for the Trojan Group today.

A well-respected member of the Trojan Board, David grew up with fellow Director, Terry Moore, who had this to say on the retirement of his colleague and good friend, “I met David at the tender age of three when we lived next door to each other. We spent our childhood and early adult life together. Whilst in our early 20’s David travelled the world teaching large PLC’s how to set up and then commission a special plastic injection moulding method to achieve hollow moulds. This was known as gas injection. On return from his travels we met up for a beer, or two, and after a very long conversation we decided to join forces and establish Raytec Presswork and Plastics. Initially, it really was a family concern with respective wives, brothers and sisters all getting involved to make the business run efficiently. Tony Chadwick had previously worked closely with David and as the business increased in size, we required a specialist tool designer – David recommended Tony and then there were three. We quickly established the business in the Walsall area enabling us to give employment to around 80 people. As time passed, there was a threat from the Far East and as a result, David was instrumental in setting up our manufacturing plant in China. In and around 1997 we decided to set up our sister company, Trojan Hardware and Design, to satisfy the growing window and door furniture market. Terry Dolman, considered one of the best design innovators in the industry, quickly came on board and so the current Trojan Group team was established. Over the years David and I had often joked about early retirement, but it never seemed to happen. But finally David has made the decision to retire and pursue his hobbies of golf and gardening whilst spending valuable time with his grandchildren.”

David retired from the Trojan Group on 1st May, 2009. The board of Directors, fellow colleagues, friends and suppliers wish David every success and happiness in his well-earned retirement.

Like other handles in the Sparta range, the door handle offers a stylish ergonomic grip feature with different back plate variants available to suit most door locks. The handle is supplied complete with spring cassette and fixing screws and is available in lever lever and lever pad options. Trojan Release – letter plate
25th February, 2009

Trojan launches new letter plate

The Trojan Group has just launched its latest product – a stainless steel letter plate. Terry Dolman, Group Technical Director, said, “A front door is a focal point of most properties and the hardware should reflect this. With this in mind, our letter plate has simple and elegant styling that is designed to complement any door.”

As Terry says, the aesthetics are very important in a letter plate. Trojan’s has a unique design, with no unsightly plastic surround. Designed to fit in with the company’s Sparta door handle, it’s available in a full range of finishes including polished chrome, PVD gold, black and white, so will suit most styles of properties. Available in 40-40 and 20-20 configurations, it will suit doors from 20mm to 70mm thick too.

Of course, being a Trojan product, the technical features have not been forgotten. Like all its products, the Trojan letter plate has been designed with numerous features that will benefit the end user. The stainless steel construction gives it the ultimate corrosion resistance and UV stability. The return spring is made from stainless steel too, offering greater longevity than the more usual plastic spring and ensuring a continuous positive return action. The flaps open to 180 degrees, eliminating the possibility of excess leverage on the pivot points and extending its lifespan. And finally, the external flap has a complete peripheral seal that forms a full thermal and acoustic barrier, preventing noise intruding and heat escaping.

The quality of the letter plate has not been forgotten either and it has undergone rigorous testing to ensure its longevity. It has been UKAS laboratory tested to BS EN 1670:1998 and exceeded grade 5 classification (or 500 hours in a salt spray environment). The opening and closing action of the flap has been tested to 50,000 cycles too. And in the abusive pull test, it achieved loads over twice that of any conventional plastic pivot and torsion spring design.

The Trojan Group has already stated its aim to offer as much support as it can to its customers in the current economic climate. With the superb quality (and competitive price) of this letter plate now added to its already prestigious portfolio, it’s certainly offering the feature-packed products that fabricators and installers need to attract consumers.

Glass Times – Hardware Feature
Company Spotlight
9th February, 2009

Trojan – the strength of hardware design

Trojan Hardware and Design, the innovative manufacturer of hardware solutions for the fenestration industry, just has rebranded itself to become The Trojan Group. As the company enters a new and exciting phase in its history, we take a look at what the company has to offer and how it is equipped to weather the current downturn.

Trojan is the renowned designer of innovative and technically superior window and door hardware and its reputation is unparalleled within the industry. The company’s principal customers are window, door and conservatory manufacturers but it also supports the social housing sector by working with specifiers, contractors, architects and buyers who work in that field.

It is these customers who give Trojan the inspiration for all its products. Every item in its range is designed in its Walsall headquarters and answers a need. As a result, every product has tangible benefits and offers major advances in terms of technical innovation. For example, the Stallion 2 shootbolt, a bestseller in the range features a fast-fit telescopic design with auto setting function which reduces fabrication time and removes the need for cropping. It clips straight into the eurogroove, reducing the number of screws needed and features a rising cam system which gives a better sash to frame clearance. The Mega Egress hinge provides a revolution in hinges for fire escape casement windows. One size suits all side-hung applications up to 900m wide and because it moves the sash outside the frame aperture, smaller windows can achieve the minimum opening size. Such attention to customers’ needs so early in the design and production process is unusual and sets Trojan apart from its competitors. As every Trojan customer knows, a Trojan product will make their lives easier and add value to their product offering. As we enter a phase when overheads will need to be tightly monitored and sales will get harder, products that save time or add value will become even more important, placing Trojan in a very strong position.

The manufacturing process is something that sets Trojan apart too, because all products are manufactured in-house. This manufacturing capability will give Trojan an advantage in the coming months in terms of quality control and, more importantly, continuity of supply and cost control. As more and more companies are affected by the recession and are forced to increase their prices or close their doors, the supply chain will become increasingly fragile. Having control over the manufacturing process in the way they do will stand Trojan in very good stead, reassuring news for its customers.

The company has factories in Walsall that undertake pressure zinc die casting (on dies manufactured on hydraulic positive lock precision machines), injection moulding and presswork, tool design and tooling. At its purpose-built, state-of-the-art 9640m2 factory in China, processes such as pressure zinc die casting, particle vacuum deposition (PVD), plating and powder coating. These in-house capabilities also mean it can undertake custom manufacturing to a customer’s precise requirements (and has the design expertise to support them through every step of the process too).

As a result of the quality of the design and manufacture, plus the level of testing they undergo, Trojan’s products have achieved numerous prestigious accreditations, something that illustrates the company’s belief in supporting its customers as well as it can and is essential in any market, especially this one. Shootbolts have also helped many window systems achieve BS7950 and many of its products are BBA accredited. These accreditations give window, door and conservatory manufacturers the reassurance they need that their own high quality products won’t be compromised by using Trojan’s equipment. They also give specifiers immediate reassurance that the products meet all appropriate industry standards and are suitable for all commercial applications.

The Trojan Group’s capabilities are showcased in its new website, www.trojan-hardware.com. The site demonstrates all of the company’s skills and shows exactly why it has become a market leader – and exactly how well-placed it is to weather the current economic storm. And as if that wasn’t enough, the company will soon be launching a series of new products to further cement its place in the market. Watch this space!

Hanley Trade Frames celebrate the benefits of their partnership with Trojan

Hanley Trade Frames, based in Stoke on Trent, have been working with Trojan Hardware and Design, the innovative window and door hardware company, for some time and the partnership is going from strength to strength.

The original decision to partner with Trojan was taken because the company offers high quality, reliable and innovative products that are easy to use. Hanley Trade Frames are committed users of Trojan’s Sparta window handle and the Patriot door hinge and both products perfectly illustrate the Trojan ethos.

The Sparta handle has a substantial weight and high quality feel with superb performance, making it ideal for companies that trade on the quality of their products. A soft grip insert gives users improved comfort and feel while inline or cranked options offer improved hand clearance. It’s available in gold (PVD), chrome and traditional white and in a variety of spindle lengths so it’s suitable for a wide range of installations. Yet despite the product’s quality, it’s extremely competitively priced. This is thanks to a design innovation – a unique locking mechanism that requires less assembly time in the factory.

The Patriot flag hinge has design features that offer fabricators and installers a wealth of timesaving benefits. Unlike traditional flag hinges, the Patriot is supplied ready to fit with just two parts, making the fitting process much easier. Adjustments are easy too – compression and vertical height adjustments are done using a single Allen key in the same action. Once the desired position has been achieved, both adjustments simply click into place, eliminating the need for a secondary plug. Not only that, the adjustment can only be done in the perpendicular plane. This means adjustment can only be done when required so it’s impossible to adversely affect the lateral adjustment which prevents the frame being pulled into an ‘S’ shape and its integrity being compromised. The hinge is available in gold (PVD), chrome, light brown, dark brown, black and traditional white.

The products offer clear benefits to both installers and end users, something that Steve Thomas, Hanley’s Director, is well aware of. He says “The quality of the products is undoubted and it’s great to have such a solid relationship with Trojan. It gives us the confidence to focus on growing our business.”

Hanley Trade Frames is based in Stoke on Trent. The company sells its door and window ranges direct to the trade.

Trojan News Release
New Product – Midi Hinge
19th August, 2008
Approved.

Trojan’s new hinge shows why they’re at the design cutting edge

Trojan Hardware and Design have just launched their new hinge and it’s destined to further cement their reputation for supplying high quality products that make fabricators’ lives easier. The new Midi Hinge has been designed to complement the company’s renowned Patriot hinge and it will be the perfect hinge for those projects that need the Patriot’s technical innovation and high quality but don’t need its heavy duty benefits.

The link with the Patriot undoubtedly gives the Midi Hinge a great provenance and fabricators already familiar with Trojan’s products will be confident it will be a worthy addition to the range. So what does the Midi offer exactly?

Firstly, it’s supplied pre-assembled with integral parts while a slim back plate maximises clearance at the plaster line. This makes it exceptionally quick and easy to fit, plus there are no loose parts to lose on site.

Those integral parts are easy-to-adjust too. Compression and height adjustment is done with the same Allen key, so maintaining aspect ratios. The hinge also offers concentric compression for the perfect fit. And once all the adjustments have been made, they are retained in the desired position with Trojan’s unique one-click “click stop” device. This brilliant technical innovation of Trojan’s eliminates the need for a secondary plug retainer and allows any adjustment to be automatically retained. Furthermore, once assembled to the door, the high security screws are totally inaccessible and therefore protected from attack.

Finally, the Midi Hinge is available in a full choice of colours – White, Cream, Black, Grey, Caramel Brown, Oak Brown, Gold (PVD) and Chrome making it ideal for a huge variety of mid-range projects.

Paul Judd, Trojan’s Technical Sales Manager said, “We’re very excited about launching the Midi Hinge onto the market. It offers just what our customers were asking for: all the benefits of the Patriot in a format that’s suitable for mid-range projects. Our aim is always to provide products that provide the fabricator and the end user with a tangible range of benefits and we’re confident that’s exactly what we’ve achieved with the Midi.”

As Paul suggests, Trojan have built their reputation on technically innovative products. With the Midi Hinge, it seems they’ve come up with another winner!
